Enhancing Safety Awareness: Insights from Jalaram Academy's First Aid and Fire Safety Training Session

In a proactive effort to boost safety awareness in the school, Jalaram Academy organized an impactful First Aid and Fire Safety Training session today. Taking place in the school's Audio Visual room, Chemistry Lab and at the basketball court, this event featured a dedicated team of experts from JRS Security, local paramedics, and specialists from the Kisumu County Fire and Safety Department. The session was designed to equip students and the staff with vital knowledge and practical skills for managing emergencies effectively.

Importance of First Aid Training

First aid training is essential for improving safety awareness and enhancing response skills. With medical emergencies occurring frequently, having trained individuals can make a significant difference. During this session, students and staffs who particiapted learned vital first aid techniques, such as:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Everyday out-of-hospital cardiac arrests may occur, emphasizing the life-saving importance of CPR training.

  • Managing Bleeding: Participants practiced controlling bleeding using dressings and pressure techniques.

  • Responding to Choking: different techniques were demonstrated to help save individuals at risk of choking.

The training also stressed situational awareness. Quick thinking is critical in emergencies, whether in a school setting or daily life. For instance, a timely call to emergency services can mean the difference between life and death.

Fire Safety Protocols

Fire safety protocols were another key focus of the training. Participants were informed about the importance of fire prevention and effective responses to fire emergencies. Kisumu County fire safety experts & JRS security led discussions on several critical aspects, including:

  • Types of Fire Extinguishers: Participants learned about different fire extinguishers, such as water, foam, dry powder, and CO2, along with guidelines for their usage.

  • Conducting Fire Drills: Regular fire drills can reduce response times by as much as 30% in emergencies.

Understanding fire hazards and the rapid escalation of fires is crucial for safety, especially in schools where many students congregate.
