Nursery section - Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Pupils will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through the main area of learning

It comprises of 2 main areas of learning

  • Prime Areas of learning and development- These are closely linked to a child’s brain development during the formative years.

Prime areas are: -

  1. Communication and Language

  2. Physical Education

  3. Personal Social Emotional Development

  • Specific Areas of Learning- These four areas develop when parents and early years’ educators know what they want children to learn and create the right opportunities for learning to take place.

These areas are: -

  1. Literacy

  2. Mathematics

  3. Knowledge and Understanding of the world

  4. Expressive Art

At Jalaram Academy, Nursery Section we learn through play. Play is essential for children development, it builds their confidence as they learn to explore, relate to others, set their own goals and solve problems

Primary section -Pearson Edexcel i-primary curriculum  Years 1-6

We follow Pearson Edexcel i-primary curriculum for all year groups mentioned
above. Our student’s age range from 5- 11 years old. At most 12 years by the end
of year 6.

The primary objective of this curriculum is to develop learners who have a well-
developed culture of reading, logical or critical thinkers, independent learners who
are able to collaborate with each other and appreciate the diversity that exists
amongst themselves and ultimately, apply the knowledge gained both in and outside
the classroom to real-life situations.

Subjects taught in the primary include;
French, Religion, Social Studies (History & Geography) Music- both theory and
practical, PSHE (Physical Social and Health Education) P.E, Swimming, Computing,
Global Citizenship, Science, Maths/Numeracy and English/Literacy.

By the end of year 6 or K.S.2 (Key Stage 2), the learners sit for their i-primary
international Edexcel exam, currently, in 5 subjects which include:
Numeracy, Literacy, Science, Computing and Global citizenship.

The i-Primary curriculum is more than just that- a curriculum. It offers
professional development and training that keeps teachers up to date with the
latest educational practices, support materials that make planning and teaching
easier and enjoyable and provides students with textbooks and online resources to
make learning engaging so a teacher has more time to focus on developing the
students.

This is what Jalaram Academy Primary school envisaged from the beginning. This
has resulted in a smooth transition of the learners from primary to lower
Secondary.

SENIOR SECTION - YEAR 7-13 (12-18 YEARS OLD)

OVERVIEW

At Jalaram Academy Senior School, we follow the British National Curriculum, while making the most of the opportunities provided by our environment and location in Kenya.  The breadth of the curriculum offered at both Years 9 – 11 (IGCSEs) and Years 12 – 13 (A-Levels) is second to none.  The Pearson Edexcel Examinations board is our preferred choice of syllabus in all the subject areas.

LOWER SECONDARY - YEAR 7-9 (11-14 YEARS OLD)

Lower Secondary level students in Years 7-9 (11 – 14-year-olds) follow Pearson Edexcel’s ILS (International lower secondary) with about 14 subjects at this level.  Year 9 is viewed as the first year of International GCSE preparation. Students sit for an achievement test and begin selecting some optional subjects.

SECONDARY  - YEAR 10-11 (14-16 YEARS OLD)

At the Middle Secondary level, Years 10 and 11 (14 – 16 years old), students choose up to 10 subjects to study for their International GCSEs. Students select these subjects in Term three of Year 9 allowing them plenty of experience in the classroom in order to make informed decisions. Selections include a minimum of six compulsory academic subjects and a number of optional subjects, choosing from a diverse range of 21 International GCSE subjects. We offer a range of 3 languages out of which a Year 9 student can select up to two.  In addition, a dedicated team of teachers delivers the PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Community Education) programme every week.

ADVANCED LEVEL - YEAR 12-13 (16-18 YEARS OLD)

In the fifth and Sixth Forms, Years 12 and 13 (16 – 18 years), Jalaram Academy offers A-level courses (21 subjects) with Advanced subsidiary level (AS-level) and Advanced level (A-Level) qualifications.
